An Augusta center dedicated to being an advocate for children who have experienced abuse and neglect has opened an office in Thomson.
Child Enrichment Inc.’s Child Advocacy Center (CAC) has established an office at 123 Nassau Place (in the Knox Shopping Center) to assist the Toombs Judicial Circuit in helping victimized children heal and help law enforcement and the prosecution build stronger cases.
The center, which will officially open Dec. 1 with a grand opening ceremony for the community and ribbon cutting beginning 10:30 a.m., strives to provide forensic interviews, therapy and advocacy for children throughout the six counties in the judicial circuit, said Kari Viola-Brooke, director of the Child Advocacy Center.
The center interviews children who have been victimized either physically or sexually and provides the prosecution and law enforcement with recorded forensic evidence gathered by a trained interviewer. The center’s personnel are experts in child abuse and experts in explaining the dynamics of abuse and trauma in children. The center serves Glascock, Lincoln, McDuffie, Taliaferro, Warren and Wilkes counties.
